Healthy drinking habits
If we drink too little, the blood’s flow properties will deteriorate. We can no longer eliminate waste products, and muscles and brain are no longer supplied with sufficient oxygen and nutrients. In the long run, this can have serious consequences and even lead to kidney and circulatory failure.
Most of us already know the recommendation to drink 1.5 to 2 litres per day. In hot weather, healthy people should even aim for 3 litres. If you do sports, add 0.5 to 1 litre per hour.
As a rule, thirst encourages people to drink. But unfortunately, this sense cannot always be relied upon. Under stress or when we are concentrating, our body often suppresses the feeling of thirst. In addition, the feeling of thirst decreases with age. Older people feel it only rarely and often take too little liquid for fear of frequent trips to the toilet or even according to the outdated rule that one should not drink anything with food. Yet it would be of great importance to drink enough in old age, because fluids ensure the maintenance of physical and mental performance.
Tip:
Fill a 1.5 litre bottle or jug with water or tea in the morning and aim to drink it all by the evening. Always keep a small water bottle in your handbag so that you also drink enough on the go. This way you retrain yourself to be thirsty – drinking is healthy after all.
WHICH DRINKS ARE HEALTHY?
In principle, water should be your beverage of choice, regardless of whether you prefer tap water or mineral water, still or sparkling water. Mineral water often contains a little more than plain water, for example calcium – so if you do not consume dairy products, then you can cover your daily requirements with the help of mineral water. Tea is also a healthy alternative to plain water.
Tip:
Why not try exciting spiced teas or flavour your own black tea with cinnamon, cardamom and/or clove powder, for example. If you like it a little sweet, our Hermesetas tablets are the calorie-free way to enjoy drinks your way.
INFUSED WATER – WATER WITH THAT CERTAIN SOMETHING
Sweet drinks, syrups and juices are not suitable as thirst quenchers due to their high sugar content. But always having just water and tea can be boring. Kind of monotonous. What about a colourful new trend? Voilà: Try “infused water”. It’s important to drink healthy!
With “Infused Water” we do not use the juice of the ingredients, but only their flavour and aroma. That’s why the drink remains completely calorie-free and is still aromatic. These discreetly fruity drinks also look good.
Let your imagination run wild: Pour fresh water over fruit, vegetables and herbs and leave the drink in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight so that the water takes on the flavour.
With this in mind: Cheers to many hours of sunshine and a wonderful summer!
